Margarita Musings on International Women’s Day
Posted on 13.03.2021
To celebrate Women’s Day, our entire MacCallum Law Group clan were treated to a delicious lunch from Hugo’s Mexican Kitchen and a few socially distant beverages. (Yes, as per the title: delicious, delicious margaritas.) While we celebrated, we wrote down a few thoughts in honour of International Women’s Day.
This Serena Williams quote got us started:
“The success of every woman should be the inspiration to another. We should raise each other up. Make sure you’re very courageous: be strong, be extremely kind, and above all be humble.”
We asked ourselves, how have women inspired us? And if we were going to add a few qualities to Serena’s list, what would they be?
How the women in our lives have inspired us
My friend/mentor has always been my biggest cheerleader. She always checks in with me and is never too busy to give an opinion.
Women have inspired me to show up every day and give 100%. To take notice if someone is struggling. To give them encouragement either with words or hugs. To look at yourself in the mirror at the end of the day and see a heart and soul that are clear of conflicts.
Women have inspired me to be independent and positive. Look forward, look up, and be motivated.
Women have inspired me by showing me how to balance work and family. They have shown me how to have a caring, loving, and gentle attitude towards others.
Women have inspired me to be strong and stand up for my values at work, and work hard and play hard.
Women who work and have families inspire me to develop a level of strength and perseverance to take care of vulnerable lives and then come to work.
What we would add to Serena’s list
Be fierce, take risks.
Women inspire us & we want to inspire them
It was interesting to see the list of ways we’ve been inspired by women and see themes of kindness and love repeated. In our work at the firm, and in our everyday lives, we’re very proud to be women who make a difference by practicing these values. It may not be International Women’s Day every day, but we never stop feeling proud to be women who work hard and love well.
